THE ART OF GARETH KOCH
A GUITAR ANTHOLOGY
THERE is something totally individual and dashing about the playing of Gareth Koch, performances that exude confidence, total command of the medium, with a derring-do defiance that keeps his music on the edge.
ABC Classics has rereleased this anthology of four beautiful recording he made with the ... Artworks label in time for his Australian tour opening in Brisbane on June 11. The fire in his Espana! disc was stirred right in the heart of Spain when he was 12. Irish is in his blood too, and although I reckon he missed the bitter irony of Johnny comes Marching Home he has the Celtic way of finding what makes the music tick, be it the enormous emotional range in Carmina Burana, the gently nuanced medieval collection, or folk tunes and ballads in She Moved Through the Fair.
